Sports massage

Sports massage enhances athletic performance and recovery.  Sports massage is useful to an athlete for pre-event, post-event, and injury treatment. Pre-event massage supports the athlete during training up until an event. Post-event massage calms the nervous system and begins the process of flushing toxins and waste products out of the body. Post-event massage can reduce recovery time, enabling an athlete to resume training much sooner than rest alone would allow. When an athlete sustains an injury, skillful massage therapy can often speed and improve the quality of healing.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage is appropriate at all phases of pregnancy including labor with the doctor’s approval. Massage can reduce pregnancy discomforts and enhance the physiological, emotional well-being of both mother, and fetus. Specialized, advanced training in the anatomy, physiology, complications, precautions, and contraindications are included in the training.

Deep tissue massage

Techniques that utilize deep-tissue/deep-muscle massage affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.

Swedish massage

One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques includes five basic strokes- kneading, rolling, vibration, percussion, tapping-when performed all flow toward the heart. The variety of strokes manipulates the soft tissues of the body. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS)

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a type of Athletic Stretching Technique that provides effective, dynamic, facilitated stretching of major muscle groups. It is functional stretching that helps lengthen muscle, and increases joint mobility.

Reflexology

The feet, hands, and ears have reference points that refer to the entire body. Reflexology is the art of massaging the feet, hands and ears to affect the entire body.

Proprioceptor Neuromuscular Facilitation Stretches (PNF)

PNF is an optimal stretching method where the aim is to increase range of motion and break up pain spasm cycles. It is wonderful in combination with Trigger Point Therapy. Muscle lengthening or, stretching is done by the therapist to the neck for instance. Then the therapist asks the client to push against the therapist, which fires or contracts the muscle. The nerves travel through the lengthened muscle tissue, which in turn breaks up the pain spasm cycles and allows the muscle fibers to lengthen. Lengthened muscle tissue is supple and does not cause pain and spasms.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy is also known as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy and applies concentrated finger pressure to “trigger points” (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain. Trigger Point Therapy involves placing pressure on that trigger point so that the muscle can relax and the pain can be lessened. Pressure is generally applied with fingers, knuckles, and elbows. This form of therapy is often followed by stretching the muscles. The basic idea is that the trigger point, which is the source of the pain, is not always, where the patient feels the pain. The trigger point could be several inches away from the place where they feel the discomfort or pain.

Reiki Healing–Usui System

Reiki healing is a hands-on energy healing art. It was originated in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui, who had a life-changing experience of light and energy that he recognized as reiki–sacred life force–and that awakened his innate healing abilities. He developed a system of practices that enabled others to become effective healers. In a reiki healing session, the practitioner, trained to access and serve as a channel for the life force (ki or chi), places their hands on the client’s body in order to activate healing energy within receptive points on the body. The practitioner moves progressively through twelve positions on the body, remaining in each position for three to five minutes. As a flow of energy transfers from therapist to client, healing occurs. Healing occurs on all levels physical, mental, and spiritual.

Strain/Counterstrain

Developed by osteopath Lawrence Jones, this noninvasive treatment helps decrease protective muscle spasms by using passive positioning. The therapist holds the client in a position where the muscle/s is slightly shortened for a period of 60-90 seconds. After resuming the original position and pressing the trigger point, the referred pain is gone.
